At her husband’s funeral, a woman notices a piece of paper sticking out of the deceased’s pocket and discreetly pulling it out

Christie thought she was in a loveless marriage because her husband had always drowned at work and never had time for her. She finally understood that her husband loved her more than anything else, but it was a little too late.

Christie and Alex had been married for ten years and had no children together. They focused on their respective careers and it ended up hurting their relationship.

On special occasions like Valentine’s Day and their anniversary, Alex and Christie always went out and ate a simple dinner out. While these dinners were meant to be romantic, Christie often found it more of a routine as it was the same thing that happened year after year.

Christie has always dreamed of traveling the world and discovering new cultures. Since they had no children, she thought it would be possible and that they could strengthen their relationship through these trips.

However, Alex still rejected his travel suggestions, saying they were expensive and unnecessary. He insisted on saving up for the future so he could take a trip when they retired.

Eventually, Christie stopped being in love. She felt like her life was just a routine and all she had to do was go home to sleep and eat.

To make matters worse, Alex was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and his days were now numbered. This made it difficult for Christie, who could not leave him in this state.

One day when she came home from work, Christie received a call from the hospital. “Mrs. Carson, your husband is not feeling well. You had better come here right away,” said the nurse.

The idea that Alex could die so young certainly broke Christie’s heart and twisted her stomach. Although she felt that their love was stagnant and without a spark, he was still her husband, with whom she had spent most of her teenage years.

She drives to the hospital and tries to hold back the tears. She begins to think about what went wrong and how things could have changed if they had tried harder as a couple.

When Christie arrived at the hospital, Alex was connected to several machines and could barely speak. But he did his best to talk to Christie and tell her how he really felt.

“Christie,” he began to say. “I know I could not prove it to you, but I want you to know that I love you more than anything else. I realized at one point that this love might not be mutual between us,” he said. he slowly as he struggled to breathe.

“I really love you, Christie, and I never expected to leave this world so soon. I had so much planned for us,” he said, reaching out for Christie’s hand. She tensed up and clung to him as he continued to talk.

“These are my last hours and there is no more I want to spend them with you. And when I die I want to take a part of you with me. So please, at my funeral, put some of you in my pocket so I can keep it forever. “

At the time, Christie was in tears. Even though she was no longer in love with Alex, she still loved him and considered him a big part of her life. “I promise I will, Alex. You do not have to worry about me. I will take care of myself. So rest well and take care of me up there, okay? I’m glad you no longer had to suffer in a long time, “she assured him.

Alex nods and continues to hold Christie’s hand. “If it’s not too much to ask, would it be okay if I was buried in my favorite blue suit? You know which one it is,” he asked.

Christie nodded. “Of course. But don ‘t think about it right now. Let’s just enjoy this time together. Okay?” she said, trying her best to smile.

For the next two hours, Christie sat next to Alex. They listened to music, reminisced about their youth and sometimes sat in silence and just enjoyed each other’s company. That night, Alex slowly fell asleep and never woke up.

“Goodbye, Alex. Thank you,” Christie whispered as he had a cardiac arrest. Tears streamed from her eyes and she cried quietly as the doctors and nurses began to remove the wires connected to her body.

At his funeral, she turned to him one last time and carefully put his medallion in his coat pocket. The medallion was important because it was the very first gift Alex gave her when they were still in college, and it featured one of their first photos together. “I want to remember you for our good times, not for what happened at the end of our marriage. Thank you for the wonderful years, Alex,” she said softly to him.

As she put the medallion in her pocket, she noticed a piece of paper inside and carefully pulled it out. “For Christie,” reads Alex’s handwriting. She had never seen him before, but she realized that Alex must have foreseen his death before placing him there. She decided to read it later and put it in her pocket.

That night, when she got home, she got ready to read the note. Alex wrote:

Dear Christy,

I’ve loved you my whole life and I’m glad it’s you I’ve chosen to spend the rest of my life with. I’m sorry that in the process of wanting to prove my love for you, I forgot to live in the now, and because of that, somewhere along the way, we became distant.

I remember when we were younger you talked about your lifelong dream: to open a cafe by the sea where you could bake your delicious cake recipes and serve hearty meals to the customers. I never forgot that dream, so every day was my motivation to work so hard. I’m sorry it took all my time and I neglected you in the process.

I was so close to seeing you realize that dream, Christie. In my safe there is a bank book in your name. I saved enough money there for you to open your business. There is also an envelope with documents for the purchase of land with a small cottage overlooking the sea where you can decorate your cafe.

I had not planned to leave the earth so soon. I would open this cafe with you. I’m sorry I can not be there with you when you make this project a reality, but know that I am always with you in your mind and in your head.

I love you with all my heart, forever. Alex.

After reading the note, Christie was in tears. For a long time, she thought Alex simply did not care about her or their relationship. She regretted that she did not tell him about their problems and got the problem solved as she still had time.

“I’m sorry I gave up so quickly, Alex,” Christie whispered to herself. “I wish I could go back in time,” she exclaimed.

That night she prayed to Alex all the time and told him about her regrets and desires. Although it took her a while to recover from her death, she slowly got back on her feet and started planning for the cafe to open, because that was what Alex would have wanted.

After a few months, she was ready to launch her cafe. She names it in honor of her husband: Uncle Alex’s Seaside Cafe.
