Line Renaud: her moving secrets about her first meeting with Loulou Gasté, “her great love”

On Wednesday, March 23, 2022, Line Renaud was invited to the show En aparté, on Canal +. During this interview, the artist presented tender confidences about Loulou Gasté, with whom she was married for 45 years.

A wonderful love story … On September 8, 1945, at the age of 17, that Line Renaud met the one she was to marry five years later, Loulou Gasté. Invited to the show An Aparté, it is with emotion that the artist confided that the composer was her Pygmalion, her great love and the love of her life until the end of her days. Referring to their story, Line Renaud said: “I knew him very young, I was 17 and Loulou was twenty years older than me. But I knew Loulou Gasté because he was my idol in the north, I sang all these songs, so for me Loulou Gasté was, in my imagination, an older gentleman who must have been 60 years old. When I first met Loulou, he said to me, ‘Do you want to see me?’ I said, ‘Not you, your father.’ So he said to me, ‘Listen, if you want to play tennis, it’s my father, but if you want to sing, it’s me.’ That’s how I met Loulou!

Very quickly, Loulou Gasté sensed the potential of Line Renaud. “He transforms me, he teaches me everything. Imagine that I arrived from Armentières to Gare du Nord and my dream was to meet Loulou Gasté, it was defined in my head: I will meet him, he will listen to me sing, and he will make my repertoire. That’s what I wanted, and that’s what happened“, she escaped. In January 2021, it was by evoking this transformation that the star had revealed to Augustin Trapenard in Boomerang about France Inter: “It was him who changed my name … We built a product. He decided many things. First I lost myself. He taught me to dress … I had longer front teeth than the others, so he made me file both teeth.

Line Renaud: “He had a crazy class”

In his autobiography And also my secretsreleased in May 2013, the artist recounted that he fell in love at first sight: “Lightning! He looked insanely elegant in his chic sportswear, beige gabardine pants and matching cashmere sweater. And a feeling of melancholy due to a divorce that he was not recovering from. He invited me to dinner and then to slow dance at a nightclub. Eventually he took me on his motorcycle.
