how much on April 1st?

[ALLOCATIONS FAMILIALES] As every year, this social benefit is upgraded in the spring. As a reminder, child allowance is granted to those who have at least two dependent children under the age of 20. The size of the support depends on the income, the number of children and their age.

[Mise à jour du vendredi 25 mars 2022 à 10h55] RSA, activity bonus … Many are the social benefits written up from 1 April 2022. Child benefits are also a concern. For a family with two children, the amount of social assistance will thus vary between 33.62 euros and 134.46 euros depending on the size of the household’s resources. Do you have a big family? Here are the amounts that await you next month:

  • For three children: between 76.69 euros and 306.72 euros.
  • For four children: between 119.75 euros and 479.00 euros

Family allowance corresponds in the narrow sense of the word to financial assistance received by persons with at least two dependent children under the age of 20, subject to income conditions (from the 1st child in the overseas departments). It is common for the term “child allowance” to be used incorrectly to refer to other family benefits, such as family housing allowance, single parents, parental education allowance.

The size of child allowance is limited in relation to the couple’s income. The basic amount for two children varies from 33.02 to 132.08 euros depending on the couple’s income. An increase of 16.51 to 66.04 euros is given if the second child is over 14 years old. It should be noted that Caf, the organization responsible for child allowance, calculates the amount of child allowance according to the income that the recipients have declared for tax. It should be noted that the maternity benefit is not part of the child allowance.

To be eligible for child allowance, the only criterion that must be met is to have at least two dependent children under 20 years of age. It should be noted that children between the ages of 16 and 20 are considered to be dependent if their monthly net salary does not exceed 78% of the net minimum wage.

What is the ceiling for receiving child allowance?

On 1 July 2015, resource ceilings were introduced for the payment of child allowances. Here are the ceilings applicable from 1 January to 31 December 2022, based on 2020 income, and the corresponding amounts, applicable from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022. The funds taken into account are those of the taxpayer has stated in his money back in tax.

Until June 2015, the number of dependent children was the only condition for the payment of child allowance. Since 1 July 2015, child allowance has been regulated according to income, as stipulated in the Act on Social Security Financing for 2015.

The calculation of child allowance is based on the monthly basis for calculating child allowance (BMAF). This corresponds to an amount set by decree, which is revalued once a year in April according to inflation. Family allowances paid to couples earning less than € 70,074 per year by 2020 and having two dependent children make up 32% of BMAF or € 132.08 per month since April 1, 2021.

In France, child allowance is paid from the second child. It is nevertheless possible to obtain payment of other family benefits such as PAJE.

For a couple who have received less than 99,399 euros in income by 2020, the size of child allowance for 2 children is 66.04 euros. For other resource ceilings, see the table above.

When a family earning less than 75,913 euros a year has three dependent children, the monthly family benefits are equal to 301.3 euros. For other resource limits, see the table above.

For a couple earning less than 81,752 euros a year and having four dependent children, the child allowance amounts to 470.52 euros. For other resource limits, see the table above.

With five dependent children, a couple earning less than € 87,591 a year can claim child support of € 639.24 a month. It should be noted that child allowance is increased by 66.04 euros per. child when the latter reaches the age of 14 (except for the eldest when there are only two dependent children). For other resource constraints, use the table above.

Households with a dependent child of 20 years and who have received child allowance for at least 3 children (including the 20-year-old) in the month prior to the child’s 20th birthday receive a monthly lump sum (see table above) until the month prior to the child’s 21 year birthday.

It is very easy to simulate the size of child allowance taking into account the above elements. It should also be noted that the site mes-aides.gouv.fr makes it possible to assess the rights to 26 social aids with a few clicks.
