Regional Communities Day: The communities of Boucle du Mouhoun are committed to working for peace and social cohesion

The international Burkina Faso consortium SOLIDAR Switzerland-SOS Sahel organized the first edition of the regional day for the Boucle du Mouhoun communities on Saturday, March 26, 2022 in Dédougou. About fifteen socio-ethnic groups participated in the said day. The organization of this day falls within the framework of the project: “Strengthening the resilience of the community in agro-sylvo-pastoral households in the Boucle du Mouhoun and Norden regions (RESICOM)”.

“Security and Humanitarian Challenges in Burkina Faso: What Strategies to Strengthen Cohesion between Socio-Ethnic Groups?” It is under this theme that the first edition of the Regional Day of the Boucle du Mouhoun Communities was held, organized by the consortium SOLIDAR Suisse-SOS Sahel International Burkina Faso and its partner OCADES Caritas Dédougou on Saturday, March 26, 2022.

The aim of the said day is to contribute to the creation of positive interactions between the various social groups and to the consolidation of peaceful coexistence and social cohesion in the Boucle du Mouhoun. It is not only a matter of contributing to the promotion of interculturality in order to combat stigma in the region, but also of increasing the public’s trust in the administration and in local authorities.

Three major activities marked this first edition. It is a cultural fair, a tea debate and a multicultural fraternal meal.

According to the national representative of SOLIDAR Suisse Burkina, leader of the consortium, Dieudonné Zongo, this day, which puts in circulation about a dozen host communities and internally displaced people from Burkina Faso and four other neighboring countries in the western sub-region of Africa. to stimulate in them the desire to open up and get to know the other, their way of life, their alliances or pranks, their food, their way of having fun and dressing. “Above all, it makes it possible to better identify the way in which the different ethnic groups regulate their tensions, prevent and deal with their conflicts,” he added.

The southwestern community

According to him, by organizing this day, a factor of rapprochement between communities and the integration of internally displaced people into host communities through intercultural acts, from kinship to jokes, the consortium intends to make its contribution to the search for effective solutions to security and humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso.

During the ceremony, 15 communities, including 4 foreign ones, namely those from Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali and Togo, shared their lifestyle, their alliances or fun relationships, their dishes and their way of entertaining and dressing. The various communities signed a collective charter, which they submitted to the governor of the region. It is not only a call for all the communities living in the region to unite and speak the same language to resolve the conflicts that may arise between them, but also a strong commitment to work for peace and social cohesion. in the region.

For the Governor of the Boucle du Mouhoun region, Babo Pierre Bassinga, in this context of security crisis, strengthening the will of local communities to coexist peacefully, through the organization of such a day, makes it possible both to strengthen socio-ethnic ties through the cultural string towards the dissolution of social cohesion. “This day is an opportunity to convey messages to preserve and strengthen this peaceful coexistence and social cohesion and create positive interactions, factors for individual and collective development between social groups in the Boucle du Mouhoun region,” said the first official in the region.

For this reason, he expressed his gratitude to the SOLIDAR Switzerland-SOS Sahel International Burkina Faso consortium and to OCADES Caritas Dédougou for their efforts to organize this regional day for the communities of Boucle du Mouhoun. “Given the importance of this day and its goals, I have no doubt that this activity deserves to be repeated to strengthen the centuries-old bonds of harmonious coexistence that have always prevailed in our society,” he said. wishes.

Funded by the Royal Danish Embassy in Burkina Faso, the RESICOM project covers twenty municipalities in the two regions, namely Boucle du Mouhoun and North.
